The Sponges Detroit Concert reviews
Great,high energy show!
This was my first visit to the Comcast Theater and it's a venue outdoors (1/2 lawn seats and 1/2 amphitheater). We arrived a bit late given there were no clear signs in Hartford to the venue (typical). The crowd was mostly middle ages, mixed. There were plenty of places inside to buy food and drinks, plenty of clean bathrooms. 38 Special opened with their hits and stayed for about 45 minutes. Bret Michaels then opened with Talk Dirty to Me which was great. Happy to see he did all of Poison's hits. He looked fantastic and healthy with lots of energy. Bret was his usual high-speed, talkative self but we could barely understand him because the acoustics for the mike were poor, although the songs came through clearly - so it sounded like a lot of jibberish. He played for about a 1/2 hour or so. Then, The Sponges blasted onto the stage after a quick intermission. It was nice to see some real musicianship and they were so interactive with the audience. The guitars were amazing. The show flew by, and the encore was, of course, Freebird with huge video screens showing Memoriams for lost friends and band members. The group (and Bret) were very supportive of the troops and families, many of whom were attending. Also, Bret's show was being filmed for his VH1 documentary, so he gave 100%. I'd definitely see them again.
